Gooey Foam... Yuk !
If your organ has it, it's just a
matter of time. Get rid of it before it's too late.

gooeyfoam

Sometime in the mid 60's, Hammond decided to stop using felts inside the back of the manuals and instead, they replaced it with "FOAM", ......... and! if the organ has been subject to abuse on the road for instance and-or, left in hot humid conditions, this foam can and does break down... melts all over those little wires (549 of them). Then you have a problem. Here in Canada our temperatures are not that humid most of the time but I have seen the break down of this material in my own 1964 B3 It was removed without problems but it was very soft and sticky and getting ready to eat through those wires. Just another thing to look out for.
